Foundry Wood is a managed access community woodland. Through volunteer work parties the local community have made the site accessible by creating paths and facilities for all to use. Now the woodland is open at various times for workshops, conservation activities and educational purposes.
Between March 2012 and June 2013, volunteers of Foundry Wood worked to make the site accessible by creating paths, building a compost toilet, the outdoor Classroom and a pond.
Early in 2013 a ‘Friends of Foundry Wood’ group was established with a Steering Group to look after the site , and in June 2013 the site was officially opened.
The land has now been leased by the developer on a peppercorn rent for 99 years.
In 2014 the Friends of Foundry Wood became a registered charity (#1157820 ) and a group of trustees now maintain the woodland on behalf of the community.
The woodland is managed by Community Group ARC CIC and the Friends of Foundry Wood.
Foundry Wood is a green triangle of land between the railway lines and Princes Drive with a single entrance and exit gate on Princes Drive.
The nearest carpark is located at Victoria Park – just across the road – and it’s free! We also have a bike shelter just inside our gates, so visitors are encouraged to cycle or walk to the woodland if possible.
Foundry Wood is open when there are activities on site or when a volunteer is available to open and close the gates. Currently they are open most days and every weekend. They try to ensure they are open during core hours of 10am – 5pm. With longer hours during the summer.
Foundry Wood relies on volunteers to open and close the gates so there are no set times. If you would like to volunteer to help with this on occasion, please contact us for more information on:
When the gates are open you are welcome to join in with the activities or just walk around and enjoy the site. Have a look at the upcoming events to find out what’s going on!

Please note:
● Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times as they can disturb the wildlife.
● Please take any waste with you off site.
