What is BID?
In 2008, local businesses and property owners voted to establish a Business Improvement District (BID) within Royal Leamington Spa. This was subsequently renewed for a further 5 year term in 2013. Since then, BID Leamington has made excellent progress in delivering services and projects, agreed by the BID Board and its partners, which increase the appeal of the town and improve trading performance.
They instigate and support a lot of projects in the town for example The Food Festival, The Lantern Parade, Christmas Lights, and of course, the Hanging Baskets that can be seen around the town during the summer and that form such a vital part of the Town’s entry into Heart of England In Bloom. They also provide books of special offers, maps, guides, and other activities, including in 2014 and entry into the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
The arbour that was specially built for the Chelsea Flower Show was handmade using traditional methods, and was adorned by flower “pods” which celebrated different aspects of the town, and a water feature, in which water cascaded out of a candlestick and over a table to a lake below. It was very beautiful and was packed full of gorgeous colourful planting, which is why it won a prestigious Silver Award.
Now, the arbour has been bought home to Leamington and is in the Jephson Gardens. Over the coming weeks, it will be planted and opened officially as part of Art in the Park, on Saturday 1st August and Sunday 2nd August (1oam – 6pm) Do come along and see it, and enjoy a weekend of Art, Creativity, and Fun! Lots of local artists will be there to wield their brushes, as well as pottery, printing, woodwork and jewellery making.
